Exhibition 2024 :
Located in an old fort dating from 1861, the Mindin Maritime Museum immerses you in the maritime world of the region through models, objects, films...
Visiting friends,
Discover, in 2024, the centenary of the "Ile de France" but also the liners "Normandie" and "France", built in Saint-Nazaire, the Loire fishing boats... a visit rich in maritime discoveries in a place picturesque!

The museum aims to be the memory of the naval construction of the Estuary – of Paimboeuf, Nantes and Saint-Nazaire.

The Fort, located in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins near the “Serpent de l’Ocean”, has housed the Mindin marine museum since 1983.

In 2024, from May 2 to the end of September, we offer visitors, in addition to our permanent collection, temporary exhibitions always related to the sea.
You have just passed through the gate of Fort de Mindin built in 1861 under Napoleon III.

At this time, several forts emerged on the coasts of France. Thus that of Belle-Ile-en-Mer, which later became the home of Sarah Bernard, or that of the island of Groix, opposite Lorient, or that of Pointe Saint-Mathieu near Brest which today has become a cenotaph, memorial to sailors who died for France.

Until 1920, Mindin Fort was occupied by the Army. As with many of them, it was sold shortly after the end of the First World War and came into private ownership.

During the Second World War, it was occupied by the German army who razed the upper floor to install an anti-aircraft defense battery.

At the end of the 1970s, the town hall of Saint-Brevin bought it and completely restored it, without however rebuilding the upper part.
In 1979, its animation was entrusted to the Amicale du Musée de la Marine created the same year.

It was its volunteer members who then developed it and now bring it to life by organizing thematic exhibitions.
