Presentation

A unique Carolingian monument !

The Carolingian abbey church which constitutes the heart of the “Déas” site was built at the beginning of the 9th century.
  •   The Carolingian abbey church
Admirable by the marriage of stone and brick and by the incomparable majesty of the heavy pillars of its checkerboard arches, this monument is in an exceptional state of conservation.
Classified as a historic monument, this work of transition between ancient art and the art of the Middle Ages is a rare witness to the Carolingian era.
The abbey church houses the sarcophagus of the city's eponymous saint.
A distant legend tells that if you pass under the tomb of Saint Philibert while making a wish, it will come true.
  •   The garden of the simple
Adjoining the abbey church, the garden is inspired by the plan of Saint-Gall.
It brings together in an educational way medicinal, aromatic, dyeing and ornamental plants cultivated during the time of Charlemagne.
  •   Birds of the lake and marshes
The press room permanently hosts an exhibition on the naturalized collection of Helmut Warzecha.
Around forty emblematic birds of the lake and its marshes are presented to better understand the fauna of this exceptional wetland which surrounds the site of the abbey.
  •   The temporary exhibition space
The abbey and its gardens inspire artists, photographers and historians. The boiler room temporarily accommodates the work of the latter.

Throughout the year, you can find the programme of exhibitions, children's events and guided tours on the website (bookings can be made online).

A little extra for families: game booklets for a fun and educational visit, and the Baludik digital treasure hunt ‘In search of the hidden tomb’.
