The
Prédaire dolmen
is located in the south-east of Pornic towards La Bernerie on the seashore. It's set on a rocky ground called "Le Prédaire".
This severely damaged megalithic site is one of the
transept dolmens
found on both sides of the Loire estuary.
This monument , also known as the
Pré d'Air dolmen
, is made up of scattered blocks of sandstone and slabs in place that delineate its different parts quite clearly.
To the west, the main terminal chamber was partly covered by an imposing block which, for safety reasons, was removed nearby in 2003.
The location of the corridor and the two other chambers can still be seen on the ground.
Baron Olivier de Wismes
(1814-1887), a learned man from Nantes, carried out archaeological the site in
1878
. In the drawings he made on this occasion
Baron Wismes accurately depicts the "
basin stone
" characteristic of the site
characteristic of the site, which also earned it the name of the "
Pierre Creusée dolmen
".
The
funerary furnishings
he discovered are kept at the Musée Dobrée in Nantes. It consists of :
an oval fibrolite pendant,
a round pendant,
two Grand Pressigny flint daggers (knives),
a small axe and a fragment of an axe,
fragments of pottery
and flint fragments.
This dolmen has been listed as a
historic monument since 1983
.
Situated 500 metres to the east of the Fontaine aux Bretons beach, the dolmen is accessible via the coastal path, following the
fishing huts tour
hiking trail.
