Presentation

A captivating journey through the history of Saint-Nazaire.
🛳️ The Great Saint-Nazaire Adventure
Located on the banks of the Loire estuary, the Saint-Nazaire Ecomuseum chronicles the unique history of Saint-Nazaire, its port, and its major industries. Documents, collectibles, and scale models tell the story of this city open to the world—the birthplace of nearly 170 ocean liners. Large-scale models, paintings, posters, photographs, and technical artifacts (such as lighthouse optics, foghorns, and shipbuilding tools) illustrate the many facets of Saint-Nazaire’s remarkable journey.

📜 The Unique History of Saint-Nazaire
Saint-Nazaire’s history is a blend of triumphant moments—such as the conquest of sea and sky and the pursuit of social progress—and dark times, most notably World War II. The Ecomuseum’s permanent exhibition takes visitors on a journey through this unique history, spanning from the 19th-century creation of the port and the city itself to the town's reconstruction in the 1950s.

✈️ A Permanent Exhibition Dedicated to Saint-Nazaire’s Aviation Industry
In 1923, Saint-Nazaire’s shipyards ventured into aircraft manufacturing. From early seaplane trials on the Loire estuary to the modern-day assembly of Airbus aircraft, aviation is inextricably linked to Saint-Nazaire’s industrial heritage. A dedicated section of the museum showcases this epic aviation story through scale models, collectibles, and an exclusive animated film that recounts this significant yet little-known history.
