Put on your boots, put on your oilskin and grab your gear, it's time to go
fishing !
On this beautiful beach, near
Cormier
Bay (a neighbouring town of La Plaine-sur-Mer) and the famous
blue fishery
,
mussels, oysters and periwinkles
await you.
If you venture a little further out to sea, you can find numerous
cockles
in summer and a few
clams
the rest of the year. Shrimp fishing is also practised here, but don't forget your shrimp net!
A few tips and tricks to make the most of your fishing trip:
Be sure to check the tide tables before you leave so you aren’t caught off guard by the rising tide (tourist offices can provide tide tables if needed).
Respect the natural environment: put rocks back where you found them, avoid fishing in seagrass beds, and fill in any holes you dig.
Sort your catch on the spot: while fishing, make sure to keep only legally sized animals. Smaller specimens must be released back into their natural habitat to allow them to reproduce. It’s very simple: bring a caliper and a fishing basket to help you determine the permitted sizes. You can purchase these items at any of our 7 Pornic Destination Tourist Offices.
Stay informed about fishing restrictions: certain areas may occasionally be closed to fishing. Check with City Hall, the Tourist Offices, or here.
Let someone know you’re heading out: Before you leave, tell someone you plan to go shore fishing. Also, bring a cell phone to report any potential difficulties.
Keep your catch cool: If you have a long trip back, put some seaweed in your basket to keep your catch fresh.
Beachcombing is a fun, educational activity that’s accessible to everyone. It allows you to explore the marine environment and appreciate the wonders that nature has to offer. Let’s make sure to practice it responsibly so that this beautiful tradition can continue!
