In an hour, the tide is low ... it's time to go fishing on foot !!!
Chatelet Beach, also known as Gibraltar Beach, and Grande Beach are among the lesser-known coves in the municipality. These two beaches are nestled between cliffs, giving them a peaceful and serene setting. Shellfish gatherers are sure to find something to their liking here, including periwinkles, oysters and mussels.
Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your fishing trip:
check the tide times before you set off so you don't get caught out by the rising tide (the Tourist Offices can provide you with tide times if necessary)
respect the natural environment: put stones back in place, avoid fishing in seaweed beds and fill in any holes you dig.
Sort your catch on the spot: when fishing, make sure you only take animals of legal size. Small specimens must be returned to their natural environment to allow them to reproduce. It couldn't be easier: just bring a calliper and a fishing basket to help you determine the authorised sizes. You can buy these at any of our seven Destination Pornic Tourist Offices.
Be aware of fishing restrictions: fishing is sometimes prohibited in certain areas. Ask for information at the town hall or tourist offices.
