Fishing huts with their feet in the water !

Before 1900, fishermen in our region used a "carrelet" (net) suspended from long chestnut poles, which could be dismantled and was called "bois debout" (standing wood).
The practice of this fishing technique, which has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage site since 2021, is now being developed, giving way to fisheries.
In days gone by, most of the fisheries on the Côte de Jade had no huts. Today, the construction of a footbridge makes them easier to access at high tide.

You can catch smelt, plaice or plaice, sole, sea bass, etc. in your net by fishing with a plaice net.

Pornic's coastline between the Boutinardière and Etang beaches boasts around fifty fisheries, most of whose owners are members of the Association pour la conservation des pêcheries de la côte de Jade. You can visit a fishery belonging to one of its members as part of the European Heritage Days in September.

The fishing huts of La côte de Jade, belong to private individuals, and are therefore private.
But some fishing huts can be rented at the tide.
This is the opportunity to discover a fishing technique typical of the Côte de Jade and the Loire estuary.
