Going up in the village of Bourgneuf in the direction of the Church, we take the Taillée street. All along this street, there are tall houses with tiled roofs, square in shape and rather imposing. Many of them were formerly shipowners' houses. The oldest are at numbers 9 and 11. An old front door still visible from the street, testifies to the richness of this ancient district. (built between the 13th and the 16th century).
From the 12th century, the "Bourg Neuf" of Saint Cyr, becomes
the new port of the town
. There established merchants, sailors, shipowners, traders...
At the bend of the streets, one finds names which recall
the splendor of the maritime past of the town
; the "sailors street", the "Goog port street", the "rope factory path" ...
Looking in detail at certain places (angles of houses, public benches ...), we still notice
a few stones of Ballast
left here and there, in exchange for the cargo of Salt taken at the port. These
Lest stones
were used to build houses, to pave certain streets ... they are traces of the maritime past of the town.
