Nice little shaded garden, facing the city, with a breathtaking view of the old port and the castle of Pornic.
Located on the left bank of Pornic harbour, in the Gourmalon district, this garden offers magnificent views of Pornic Castle, Ria harbour and the upper town, the medieval heart of Pornic.

🔎 3 good reasons to visit Gourmalon Garden :
  1. This garden has a few benches and a picnic table, making it a great place to take a break. It is sheltered from the sun. In the height of summer, when the heat is omnipresent, this tree-lined site is most pleasant. 
  2. This garden has some benches and a playground for children near the old port. 🛝
  3. The garden of Gourmalon is located at the beginning of the hiking trail "Circuit des Pêcheries", following the customs path.

Who is the statue at the entrance to the garden, facing the town?
The statue in the Gourmalon Garden represents Rear Admiral Théodore Constant Leray. This naval officer and politician was born in Brest in 1795 and died in Paris in 1849. However, he came from a family of sailors originally from Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer (now part of Pornic).
He had a career in the French Navy, rising to the rank of rear admiral, and was also a member of parliament for Loire-Atlantique.
The sculpture was created by the sculptor Amédée Ménard (1806–1873) and was placed in Place du Môle in 1855.
