Presentation

The Île d'Yeu is undoubtedly the most exotic getaway around Pornic. Located in Vendée, further offshore than its neighbour Noirmoutier, it offers a blend of Brittany and Vendée. It is the ultimate ‘wild’ island. Ferry crossings to Île d'Yeu are available all year round from Fromentine (45 minutes' drive from Pornic).
The Île d'Yeu is located 17 km off the coast of Vendée.

Its 23 km² of land offer a wide variety of landscapes:
  • long beaches and coastal dunes,
  • a wild coastline with towering cliffs enclosing coves of golden sand,
  • moorland with short grass,
  • sunken paths criss-crossing the valleys and running alongside the cliffs,
  • hedgerows,
  • and low houses with tiled roofs and colourful shutters.

This wild jewel of the Atlantic is only accessible by boat.
Île d'Yeu is a land of contrasts that must be earned. Here, cars are rare and time seems to have stood still.
Between its jagged coastline reminiscent of the cliffs of Brittany and its long sandy beaches lined with pine trees, the island offers a complete escape, right by the ocean.

Three good reasons to discover Île d'Yeu:
  1. A spectacular wild coastline: Classified as a protected natural site, the south-western coast of the island is a succession of steep cliffs and secret coves. The highlight is the Vieux Château, a medieval fortress built on a rocky outcrop surrounded by the waves: a setting worthy of the greatest pirate legends.
  2. The charm of the ports and white houses: From Port-Joinville, the beating heart of the island, to the small Port de la Meule nestled in a rocky crevice, you will succumb to the charm of the low houses with their colourful shutters and gardens blooming with hollyhocks. This is island life in all its splendour.
  3. A paradise for cycling and hiking: With its gentle terrain and numerous coastal paths, the island is ideal for exploring by bicycle or on foot. A tour of the island (approximately 30 km) offers a change of scenery every ten minutes, taking you from heathland to maritime pine forests in the blink of an eye.

Practical tip: To fully enjoy the magic of the island, we recommend booking your morning crossing from Fromentine or Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Arriving at the port and enjoying your first coffee on the terrace is an unforgettable moment !
Two ferry companies allow you to dock on the island by disembarking at Port-Joinville:

💡 Take advantage of the ‘Escapades’ or ‘good deals’ day return offers available from both companies: you can get up to 30% off !
