La Sennetière beach
is well known to local residents. This is where they come to stroll, swim and admire the Baie de Bourgneuf.
La Sennetière beach in La Bernerie-en-Retz
is just below the Port Royal esplanade. The famous customs path runs the length of the beach, and is easily reached by car via the Rue des Quatre Jumelles, a pretty one-way street where the beautiful seaside villas were built in the 19th century.
The car park is right next door, so it's easy for families to get there: just go down the steps or the tarmac ramp and your beach day can begin.
This is a special place, well known to the locals. Away from the crowded and noisy beaches, families come to enjoy the small natural beach in a friendly atmosphere.
The special feature of La Sennetière beach is that it is framed by groynes.
What are groynes?
Groynes are wooden structures built along the coast to prevent coastal erosion.
They act as natural barriers, reducing the force of waves and limiting the impact of erosion on the beach.
Thanks to these groynes, La Sennetière beach benefits from extra protection, making it a safe and unspoilt place for visitors.
But be warned, small rocks are everywhere here, so wear slippers when swimming.
