A symbolic chapel that had difficulty to impose itself !
As there was no bridge between the district of Gourmalon and the town of Pornic, the parishioners of Gourmalon had great difficulty to go to church. They had the idea to build a chapel against the advice of the clergy. The chapel Gourmalon Pornic was inaugurated March 1, 1909.
The syndicate of the owners of Gourmalon created in 1873, decides to undertake the construction of the chapel despite the opposition of the clergy. The chapel is finally built and entirely financed by the inhabitants of Gourmalon.
Inaugurated on March 1, 1909, it is not included in the inventory of property confiscated at the time of the separation of the State and the Church, and therefore remains the full responsibility of the parish of Pornic. All that remained was to obtain the appointment of a minister, but the parish refused. Faced with this obstinacy, the residents of Gourmalon appeal to Rome which will finally decide the opening of a Catholic place of worship in this chapel.
Sunday Masses during the summer season only.
