The “town of Sainte-Marie sur Mer” circuit traces the history of the town of this ancient commune and discovers its remarkable heritage elements.
 

 
Human settlement has been documented since prehistoric times in the territory of Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer, as evidenced by the various artifacts found during archaeological excavations (flint, etc.).
If burials unearthed nearby can be attributed to the very early Middle Ages, it is really in the 12th century that the appearance of the town of Sainte-Marie-sur-Mer can be placed with the founding of an abbey by the canons of Saint-Augustin.

Very restricted and closely linked to the monastic establishment, the town only really developed in the 19th century with the advent of the fashion for sea bathing.
