The Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire is one of the largest, oldest, and most innovative in the world. Everything here is impressive: construction halls and a pre-assembly area stretching over 900 meters, a gigantic gantry crane (TGP) with a lifting capacity of 1,400 tonnes, and a high-speed gantry crane (THP) that lifts components to heights of up to 81 meters. A guided tour immerses you in the heart of the action, offering the chance to admire these giants at work.

Since 1862, these ships have been a source of pride for Saint-Nazaire and a testament to exceptional craftsmanship. Renowned worldwide, the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard opens its doors to you for an exclusive tour.

You will travel by bus from the submarine base to the heart of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique complex. A guided tour awaits, allowing you to observe the ships under construction up close. Discover the shipyard’s facilities, workshops, and assembly docks as Europe’s two most powerful gantry cranes move overhead. A fascinating and spectacular experience!

This two-hour tour offers a captivating insight into shipbuilding in Saint-Nazaire and provides stunning views of the vessels under construction. But that’s not all:
  • The site spans over 100 hectares, and its facilities rank among the most innovative and extensive in the world.
  • The tour will introduce you to the innovations implemented by Chantiers de l’Atlantique to support the ecological transition and reduce the environmental impact of their ships. One example: new propulsion methods (LNG, rigid sails, etc.).
  • The company’s diversification into the marine renewable energy (MRE) sector is also reflected in its offshore wind farms and related projects.
This tour offers a comprehensive overview of the industrial site and the shipbuilding process.

Here is how the Chantiers de l'Atlantique tour works:
  • Booking required – Tour open to children aged 4 and up only.
  • To book, we need the following information for each participant: full name, nationality, and date and place of birth.
  • The tour departs from the Submarine Base (Base Sous-Marine) on Boulevard de la Légion d'Honneur, near the ticket office. Transport is provided via air-conditioned coach.
  • The two-hour tour is conducted in French or English (itinerary and content may vary depending on shipyard operations). Audio guides are available in 8 languages: English, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, and Polish.
  • Photography is strictly prohibited during the tour. Sturdy footwear is mandatory.
  • Pets are not allowed.
  • You will not board any cruise ships currently under construction.
  • Special conditions apply to groups of 20 or more people.
  • Please note that you may be briefly exposed to noise and/or odors within the industrial facilities visited. These tours are suitable for children aged 4 and older.
