Le Daviaud: The Must-See Ecomuseum of the Breton-Vendée Marshes
An immersive journey into the heart of heritage, nature, and market gardening traditions in La Barre-de-Monts, 45 minutes from Pornic.

Located in La Barre-de-Monts, in the heart of the Marais Breton Vendéen, Le Daviaud is an ecomuseum unique in France, entirely dedicated to exploring a region shaped by both man and the sea. Designated a Musée de France, it spans over 60 to 75 hectares of natural areas, depending on the source, and offers an immersive journey blending nature, history, traditional architecture, and ancestral know-how.
A true gateway to the world of the Marais, it offers a cultural and sensory experience accessible to all.

🌾 An immersive outdoor trail in the heart of the marsh
Le Daviaud offers an outdoor trail of about 1 km, divided into several themed sections that help visitors understand the formation of the marsh, its evolution, and the daily life of its inhabitants. Along the way, you’ll discover:
  •     the diversity of the marsh’s landscapes,
  •     the history of salt and the salt marshes,
  •     the Daviaud farm,
  •     the bourrine, the traditional dwelling emblematic of the Vendée Breton Marshes.
This open-air trail offers a total immersion in a preserved natural environment.

🏡 A modern and interactive museum experience.
The eco-museum also houses an indoor exhibition ranging from 250 to 800 square meters in size, depending on the space, titled “The Marsh and the People.” Through multimedia displays, historical artifacts, personal accounts, and hands-on activities, visitors learn about:
  •     the formation of the marsh,
  •     its human and cultural history,
  •     marsh farming techniques,
  •     the local flora and fauna.

This interactive approach makes the visit particularly suitable for families and school groups.
