Presentation

The former presbytery of Cheix-en-Retz, now converted into a gîte, is the result of a series of buildings built side by side over the centuries. Introduced in medieval times, the building was transformed in the 17th century. It was extended in the mid-19th century.
The former presbytery dates back to the Middle Ages:
The oldest part, with Romanesque arched doorways, probably dates from the 12th century. It was during this period that the first priors of Cheix appeared.
The building was restored and considerably altered in the 14th and 15th centuries.

It was modified in the 17th century.
The central part, facing the porch, bears the date 1637 engraved on the tufa lintel at the entrance.

The last alterations were made in the 19th century.
The wing, with its brick-panelled openings and low-pitched tiled roof, was built in 1848. The west extension dates from 1856.

The walled garden of the former vicarage has now been converted into parkland. To the south, a stone porch overlooks the garden.

Today, the former presbytery is a private property that cannot be visited.
Facing the river Acheneau, you can see the buildings surrounded by its green space at the end of the Chemin de la Rive, which is a popular hiking route on the Pierre Tremblante trail.
