Presentation

The Pierre-le-Matz menhir is a sandstone boulder standing in a locality of the same name near the village of La Caillerie.
This sandstone menhir measures 3.70m high, 2.10m wide and 1.20m thick at its base.

At the top, on the surface, there is a series of around ten small cupules.

A little further on in the field, there are other smaller stones, two small menhirs:
  • The first is lying by the side of the road.
  • The second is in the field on the other side of the embankment.
The Pierre-le-Matz menhir is located around 500m south-east of the hamlet of La Croterie, where the "Les menhirs" hiking trail passes in the commune of Chauvé.
