Presentation

Located at the entrance to the village of Bourgneuf, the Salorges which today house the municipal library and that of the tourist information office, were for a long time "salt granaries" where White Gold was stored before transporting it. at the four corners of the Pays de Retz region, Nantes and all of Europe.
From the 14th century, buildings were built to store the salt collected in numerous salt works around Bourgneuf to let it dry during the winter.

The materials used at the time are rudimentary; wood and stone.

Thus, this traditional building was made of wood and consolidated with stone buttresses, to avoid instability and collapse of the structure.

The decline of the salt trade from the 18th century meant, that one of this building, was transformed into a shipyard. (welcomes today the library of Bourgneuf). And the other one has become today the Tourist Office (was renovated in 1991 and then in 2016).
