Vue comes from the Celtic name Vidua, in fact its site has been occupied since the Neolithic period. Then the Romans occupied this place and gave it the name of Viriliacum. After the decline of the Roman Empire, the city reverted to its Celtic name Vidua and continued to prosper. Then she became Vehue, Veulx before becoming Veuz and Veuë before the Revolution. Moreover, we can specify that the town changed its name during the revolutionary period, to temporarily call itself Île-Tortue, spelled under the form of Isle Tartu.
