Presentation

The tumulus of Mousseaux, funerary monument built around 3500 BC, is located west of Pornic, north of the marina of "La Noëveillard".
Formed by a quadrangular cairn of about 180 m², an imposing mass of stones, it is surrounded by three dry stone walls, tiered.
The cairn contains two transept megalithic tombs (intersection of the lateral quadrangular chambers and the corridor) opening onto the southeast façade of the building.
The southern corridor serves four chambers, while the northern one serves only two.

The study and restoration of this remarkable monument allows us to better understand the aspect and originality of transept megalithic burials. It is a local type of monument, centered on Pornic and which developed around the estuary of the Loire, in the Neolithic period.
This type of monument is part of the evolutionary trend that follows the corridor tombs with single chamber.

Long called "Druidic stones", this monument, restored in 1975/1977, was part of a very large necropolis which is now partly ruined or has disappeared under the housing estates.

This dolmen is classified as a historical monument (classification by list of 1889, specified by decree of June 22, 2006).

It is located 600 meters north of the beach of Noëveillard.
