Fête de la Margat'

Come and celebrate the Margat’ (the Pornic cuttlefish!) during a unique day centred on sharing, the sea and fine dining. Between the sea and the Esplanade de la Ria, discover a programme packed with activities:

• 10.00 am – Recreational sea fishing (Port de la Noëveillard): Crews set off for a spot of rod and jig fishing
• 12.30 pm – Opening of the festival village (Esplanade de la Ria): Official launch and a convivial aperitif hosted by the Pornic Port de Pêche association
• 2 pm – Amateur cookery competition: Five contestants take up the challenge of combining the Margat’ with a mystery Italian ingredient in 1½ hours, guided by JRE chefs and local chefs
• 3.30 pm & 5 pm – Musical entertainment: Festive street performances by the Pili Pili brass band
• 4 pm – Demonstrations & tastings: Chefs from Pornic, Maîtres Restaurateurs and JRE chefs share their expertise on the star of the day
• 5.00 pm – Return from the fishing trip: Arrival of the boats, unloading and weighing of the catch
• 6.00 pm – Prize-giving ceremony for the amateur cooking competition
• 6.30 pm – Auction: Announcement of the fishing results and sale in aid of the SNSM
• 7.00 pm – Grand open-air dinner: Tasting of a special menu (main course and dessert) created by chef Julien Lainé, prepared in collaboration with Retz Passion Traiteur and the central kitchen, and served by pupils from Sainte-Anne High School (420 guests, booking required).

• Registration & Bookings:
  • Recreational sea fishing: free of charge, registration required by calling 02 40 82 01 95 (Comptoir de la Mer) before 2 September (own boat required, 10 to 25 boats)
  • Amateur cookery competition: free of charge, register by email at evenements@pornic.fr (draw to be held on 2 September)
  • Gala dinner: book online via Billetweb (from 25 August to 12 September, limited places). Tickets may be available to buy on the day, subject to availability
