With your Pays de Retz Heritage Trail leaflet (only in french), available from the Les Moutiers-en-Retz Tourist Office or downloadable from our website, set off to explore this small fishing and yachting port at the end of Bourgneuf Bay. Introduction to the leaflet produced jointly by the ‘Heritage Group’ of the Raymond Devos Library and the Société des Historiens du Pays de Retz: "Le Collet, a bucolic area in the middle of the Breton marshes, is a remarkable place both geographically and historically. The landscape has changed considerably: 20,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age, the sea level was 120 metres lower and the coastline was far away, beyond the island of Noirmoutier. Then, the sea gradually rose to form a gulf stretching from here to Machecoul. In the distance, you can see the two spires of the church and the water tower of this town. Sediments deposited by the Loire and smaller rivers gradually filled this gulf, forming a bay around the year 1000. At the mouth of the Falleron, under the influence of currents, an islet of sand and gravel formed at the northern entrance to the bay: Le Collet was born. "
