Presentation

Le Grand Chemin : a journey through time and nature in Rouans 
Follow in the footsteps of Jean-Loup Hubert's 1986 film ‘Le Grand Chemin’ and plunge into the heart of the Pays de Retz hinterland . This walking and cycling trail takes you on an enchanting ride through rolling countryside and a rich and varied natural environment.
 
Follow the country lanes and discover :
  • Green hillsides stretching as far as the eye can see.
  • The hamlet of La Brounière, a haven of peace with stone houses and thatched roofs.
  • The little wooden bridges spanning the peaceful River Blanche. 
  • Buzon, an ancient port that evokes memories of the monks of Buzay. 
  • Saint-Martin-de-Vertou and the Bec mill, relics of the past that bear witness to the region's history.
 
Admire the flora and fauna that flourish in this bucolic setting :
  • Lush undergrowth where songbirds hide. 
  • Green pastures where cows and sheep graze peacefully.  
  • Market gardens that add a thousand and one colours to the landscape.
  • Wet marshes where amphibians and insects nest.  
 
 : Longer route with a few technical sections, suitable for more experienced cyclists and suitable for mountain bikes.
 
Get back in touch with nature and enjoy the fresh air of this unspoilt region. This route is perfect for a day out with family or friends.
