Irish dance and music course – storytelling workshop with the Cercle celtique de Pornic

The Cercle Celtique de Pornic invites you to an afternoon of immersion in the heart of Irish and Breton musical and dance traditions. From 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm, you can choose from three workshops, followed by a group performance at 7.00 pm to share a convivial moment.

• 1. Irish Music Workshop (with Sophie Bardou)   
  • Discover and explore the traditional Irish-Celtic repertoire alongside Sophie Bardou, an experienced violinist and teacher
  • Content:
    • learning traditional tunes, working on rhythm, tempo, accentuation and the swing characteristic of different styles (reels, jigs, etc.)
    • exploring group arrangements, the specific characteristics of dance music and traditional pub ‘sessions’
  • Level: open to musicians who are already familiar with their instrument (beginners in Irish music, intermediate and advanced players). The ability to read music or play by ear is not essential. Tunes will be sent out in advance.
• 2. Irish Dance Workshop (with the Etceltera association)    
  • Immerse yourself in the heart of Irish dance through a dynamic and accessible workshop
  • Content:
    • Céilí dances: friendly and festive group dances
    • Set Dancing: the art of Irish-style quadrille
    • Introduction to Sean-Nós: a traditional solo style, very rhythmic and focused on footwork (the forerunner of modern tap dancing)
  • Level: open to all (complete beginners welcome!)
• 3. Storytelling workshop: we will begin by listening to a traditional story. We will discuss everyone’s thoughts on storytelling in general   
  • Depending on the number and preferences of the participants: group and/or individual work on storytelling techniques, with the aim of giving one or more performances in the afternoon
  • A performance will take place at the end of the afternoon before the dancing and music
     

All afternoon activities will conclude with a group performance at 7.00 pm
