Lyarne Beach

Lyarne beach in Moutiers-en-Retz, a paradise for nature-lovers!

Situated on the Collet dune, a real link between the marsh and the ocean, Lyarne beach is renowned for its peacefulness.

A protected natural area, this is a great place to observe the flora: dune bindweed, sand toadflax, dune carnation and the Immortelle, a small plant with yellow flowers that smell of curry! At low tide, the vast mudflats are revealed as the sea recedes several kilometres and the waltz of shorebirds begins: sandpipers, avocets, egrets and shelducks come to feed.

Like all the beaches at Moutiers-en-Retz, Lyarne's beach is indented by wooden groins or rocks, limiting erosion by keeping the sand in place. If you want to take a dip, you can only do so at high tide, so check the tide times before setting off. Note that to preserve nature, this whole area is not cleaned mechanically, but only by hand, a few times a year by volunteers.

Lyarne beach's little bonus: all the beaches from Lancastria to Port Collet are accessible to dogs on a lead, with no restrictions on dates or times (with the exception of Pointe des Sables).
