Presentation

The Lancastria beach, located in a protected natural area, is one of the ‘wild’ beaches of Les Moutiers-en-Retz.

This is where the Collet dune line begins, also known as the ‘Collet Dune’, which closes off the northern part of the Lyarne marsh. The landscape becomes wild, with white sand and fisheries inviting you to daydream.

These natural beaches stretch for 4 km from the Lancastria path to the famous port of Collet. They are carved out by wooden groins or rocks that help to break the waves and keep the sand in place. Located in an environmentally sensitive area, these beaches are cleaned manually by a handful of volunteers, only once or twice a year, as they are home to protected species.

Bathing is only possible at high tide, because when the tide goes out, a lunar landscape emerges... The sea retreats several kilometres from the coast, revealing the famous ‘blue mud’.

The Lancastria beach bonus
All the beaches from Lancastria to Le Collet are accessible to dogs on a lead, with no restrictions on dates or times (with the exception of Pointe des Sables).

 Some good advice
  • wear water shoes to make the most of this beach
  • don't forget to bring a bucket and spade for some family fun
  • for a dip in the ocean, check the tide times
  • for parking, there is a car park 100 m from the beach, along the Collet road
to admire the fisheries, turn left and walk south to find the Siamese fisheries!

3 ideas for walks to explore this unspoilt natural landscape
If you'd like to explore the surrounding area, the Lyarne marshes, the picturesque port of Le Collet, the oyster huts... here are our suggestions for walks:
  • on foot: hike the pretty circuit of Le Collet or the famous sentier des douaniers / GR8 or take a guided nature outing with Echos Nature
  • by bike: head north or south, following the green arrows of the Vélodyssée cycle route
  • on horseback: pony or horse rides are organised by the Centre hippique de la mer.
