In the pretty chapel of Tharon-Plage in Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, immerse yourself in the passionate soul of sacred tango with the concert ‘La Misa Tango’ by Martin Palmeri, performed by the Ensemble Vocal de Pornic.
‘La Misa Tango'   created by Martin Palmeri in Buenos Aires in 1996, brings together the six elements of a traditional Latin mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei), sung by a four-voice choir and a mezzo-soprano soloist, accompanied by piano, double bass and bandoneon.

The originality of this work lies in the unusual rhythms of this mass, revealing a joyful, even jubilant music, so much so ‘linked to the roots of the country, glued to its secular dances’. To seduce us, Palméri uses an instrument that is relatively rare in Europe: the bandoneon, the emblematic instrument of a tango ensemble.

Quickly recognised as an exceptional composition, Misa Tango was performed in 2013 at the Vatican in Rome, in honour of the recent enthronement of Pope Francis, who had just left his home country and his duties as cartinal of Buenos Aires. Three years later, in April 2016, it will be performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.

So it is with great modesty that the Ensemble Vocal de Pornic (a choir made up of forty amateur singers, directed by Peter Vizard) proposes to perform this work, accompanied by four musicians from Nantes, buoyed by the success of their three performances since May 2024
