Take the "
Gourmalon and its seaside villas
" tour and discover the district's remarkable heritage features.
For a long time, the Gourmalon plateau was moorland, a rabbit warren where rabbits, the only living creatures in the area along with the inhabitants of a former tenant farm belonging to the Benoist family, located near a guardhouse, frequented heather, gorse and menhirs.
A rope factory was set up on the site of the current flour mill, well isolated opposite the Quai Le Ray, which had already been bustling with port activity since 1800. In 1875, with the arrival of the train in Pornic, the Gourmalon district was urbanised to accommodate the growing number of holidaymakers, near the famous Malmy spring. A vast housing estate was designed.
