During the Middle Ages, Pornic was the seat of a castellany belonging to the barony of Rais in the same way as those of Machecoul, Princé and Prigny. The small medieval town was organised around three centres: the castle, the market and the church. It developed a maritime economy thanks to its location in the centre of the bay and at the mouth of a navigable river. This tour will help you spot the remains of this medieval past and understand the strategic importance of the Pornic site.
