Journey back in time to Port-Saint-Père: in the footsteps of the Red Sands ⏳️
Set off on an adventure at Port-Saint-Père and discover a walking and cycling trail that will take you on a journey through history and nature !

Following in the footsteps of the old Sables Rouges quarries, you'll pass through varied and charming landscapes: peaceful undergrowth, lush green pastures, sun-drenched vineyards and tranquil marshes. ‍You can take the "Bourgneuf" path, an ancient Roman road used by travellers and merchants in days gone by.
This route will take you to Port Hamoneau, located on the banks of the Acheneau river, and admire this haven of peace where fishermen indulge their passion, also an opportunity to test your fishing skills !
Along the way, don't miss the old Sables Rouges quarries, remnants of a time when sand was extracted to supply the Trignac foundry. ⚒️
Today, nature has reclaimed its rights, and the old quarries offer a unique setting for a walk with family and friends.

Take advantage of this tour to discover the rich heritage of Port-Saint-Père, and let yourself be charmed by its authentic landscapes and timeless beauty.

Our historical anecdotes :
  • Did you know that the sand extracted from the Port-Saint-Père quarries was used in the construction of many monuments and buildings in the region ? These include the Château de Nantes and Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Cathedral in Nantes.
  • The Trignac foundry, which used sand from Port-Saint-Père, was one of the largest in France in the 19th century. It produced castings for the shipbuilding industry, the railways and agriculture.
  • Port Hamoneau was once a major trading port. Salt, wine and agricultural produce were exported here.

: a short, easy cycle route, suitable for families and everyone, on foot, with a city bike or a mountain bike.
