A natural curiosity that captivates young and old alike !

La Roche Percée is like an elephant taking a dip in the water. Nature has fashioned it with sumptuousness and excellence.
At low tide, you can walk right up to its feet and caress its rocky trunk, which is sometimes wet and sometimes dry.
At high tide, you can watch the swells and ocean waves hitting the bottom of your feet: a very pleasant, agitated sea bath ! In fine weather, the colourful vegetation on its heights contrasts with the grey hues of a pachyderm. Photo enthusiasts will be delighted by this panorama of rocks, sand and water as far as the eye can see.

An emblematic curiosity in the history of Préfailles.

For years and centuries, it has been the city's flagship image. It appeals to young and old alike. Not far from the Grande Plage, which attracts large numbers of families on sunny days, children adore it and love to test themselves against its giant-like dimensions.
La Roche Percée has also been a source of inspiration for painters since the mid-19th century. It features in a number of artists' sketches and paintings: Jean-Charles Millet, Paul de Plument de Bailhac, Charles Lemaresquier and many others. You can find them in the book "Les Couleurs de Préfailles" by Jean-Loup MASSIGNON on sale at the Préfailles Tourist Office.
