Destination Pornic has a very strong shellfish industry. La Plainaise, bouchot mussels from La Plaine-sur-Mer: the star product of the summer holidays! 2% of the national market, 50% of the Pays de la Loire's mussel production (around 200 tonnes a year)... mussels that are consistent in terms of meat content, size and quality... a real treat! You can try them in local restaurants or at the famous ‘mussel festivals’ organised during the summer by certain associations on the Côte de Jade. Oysters from the Baie de Bourgneuf Delicious oysters thrive in this ideal setting. Some 1,500 tonnes are produced each year in the Bay's oyster beds by 700 oyster farmers, representing 12% of national production. Come and meet the oyster farmers at Moutiers-en-Retz, in the Collet and Lyarne aquaculture areas, and they'll explain their trade, their passion and their product to you.
